Gionee S6s Specification : Selfie Phone

Gionee has done it agine see the specifications of Gionee S6s, Gionee S6s is specially designed for selfie-lovers. And is tag at #84894.95 Nigeria naira. But there's a lot more to a smartphone than just good selfies and accordingly, Gionee S6s claims to be an all-around good smartphone.

Design and display

Gionee is known for designing some good looking smartphones and the S6s is no different. The metallic unibody design of the S6s is definitely impressive. Despite having a 5.5-inch display, it is surprisingly comfortable to use with one hand. The matte finished body offers a sturdy grip as well.

The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right, while the sim card tray is on the left. As for the bottom, this is where the 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port are located. The rear of the smartphone houses a 13MP camera with LED flash, as well as a circular fingerprint sensor and the refreshed Gionee logo. The front is largely dominated by the display, above which sit the 8MP selfie-shooter, LED flash, earpiece and the usual array of sensors. Below the display are three capacitive navigation buttons.

Despite having a large display, Gionee S6s is fairly lightweight and sleek. In the design department, it definitely gets a thumbs up from us.

Coming to the display, Gionee S6s boasts a 5.5-inch Full HD display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution. During our testing, we found the display to be pretty great. It's sharp, vibrant and offers good colour reproduction. Viewing angles are fine as well, and the large screen is perfect for gaming and video consumption. The display is not reflective and is fairly readable under direct sunlight.

Gionee S6s includes two options in the settings to adjust the brightness. While 'Adaptive Brightness' is just the company's fancy way of referring to automatic brightness option,'Economical Backlight' reduces the brightness intensity to conserve power.

Performance and camera

Gionee S6s is powered by an octa-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with 3GB of RAM. There's also 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD cards.

During our testing, Gionee S6s delivered a pretty smooth overall performance with no visible lag. We played a bunch of graphics-heavy games such as Asphalt 8, and the smartphone handled them without any issues.

That said, the smartphone does heat up a little after gaming for a little while. The fact that it has a metallic body makes the heating issue a bit more problematic.

Apart from that, multitasking is just fine on the smartphone. During our testing, it managed to run multiple apps and switch between them without suffering from any considerable drain in performance.

Gionee S6s has a hybrid dual-sim slot, so you have to choose between dual-sim functionality and expandable storage. As far as call quality is concerned, the smartphone performed as expected. Signal reception was good enough during our test calls, and so was VoLTE network connectivity

Coming to the battery life, Gionee S6s packs a 3,150mAh battery. During our time with it, the smartphone easily lasted more than a day with moderate usage.

The fingerprint sensor at the back of the smartphone is really quick and unlocks the device near instantly.

Gionee S6s runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow topped with the company's Amigo 3.2 UI layer. The user interface is pretty clean and easy to use. There is no app drawer, which means all the apps are there on the homescreen. However, the apps can be arranged on multiple homescreens.

An interesting app pre-installed on the smartphone is Chameleon. It allows users to pick any colour from an object by scanning it with the camera and then make a theme based on that colour.

Gionee S6s comes with a guest mode that can be used to hide some apps like like call logs, messages and albums. This helps quite a bit in securing user data. Other trademark Gionee features like Fake Calls, Super Screenshot Tool, Theme Park and Extreme Battery Mode are also there.

Talking about the cameras, the Gionee S6s is equipped with a 13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and an 8MP front camera with LED flash. During our time with the smartphone, we were quite impressed with the image quality. Colour reproduction is good and the beautification feature further enhances selfies. The camera app itself is pretty clean and easy to use, and Gionee has added numerous shooting modes for those who love taking photos. There is also a GIF mode which allows users to capture multiple images and prepare GIFs from them. The 8MP selfie camera works really well and in our testing, managed to capture some really good looking selfies. The front LED flash helps low-light selfies as well.
